The Landscape Institute advocates a holistic, integrated, multifunctional and well-informed approach to land management across all landscapes. We support a Land Use Framework that emphasises nature recovery, sustainable food production, and soil health.

Our key recommendations include: universally applied land-use principles; strategic, landscape-scale delivery of policies; regulatory intervention to balance economic viability with environmental quality; and addressing resource and skills shortages in the landscape, planning and allied professions.

Landscape is everywhere. We stress the importance of environmental considerations, stakeholder collaboration, robust policy frameworks and data management, and integrating climate change considerations into both rural and urban land use planning.

We would be pleased to engage in discussions with MHCLG / DEFRA on both these topics. We would likewise be happy to receive member feedback. Please contact the Landscape Institute at policy@landscapeinstitute.org.
