Development & Nature Recovery

The Landscape Institute welcomed the opportunity to respond to the government’s proposals on development and nature recovery. While acknowledging the potential for a simpler developer experience with the proposed approach, we are concerned that nature recovery might be treated as separate from development, rather than being integrated within it. This compartmentalization could be less effective, especially for larger, low-rise housing developments with significant open space. Furthermore, we are concerned about the capacity of Delivery Bodies to effectively produce and implement Delivery Plans for ambitious housing and infrastructure projects – we emphasise the need for adequate resources, including environmental expertise and funding.
