What happens when I resign my individual LI membership?

    On resignation of your individual membership

    • You must remove all references to yourself as a Member of the Landscape Institute from your employers’ documents, business cards, letterheads, websites, email signatures, etc. You must remove similar references if employed in the public sector.
    • You must inform all relevant third parties of your change in membership status. Failure to do so could leave you open to legal action.
    • The change in your membership might impact on the terms of your employment. Further advice should be sought from your employer.
    • You will no longer receive LI communications including copies of the LI Journal; your access will be removed from the LI Members area on our website, Talking Landscape, and other services.

    Chartered Members considering resignation

    • You must immediately update all relevant documents where you are referred to as CMLI/FLI or describe yourself as a Chartered Landscape Architect, by removing these protected titles.
    • You must inform all relevant third parties of your change in professional status. Failure to do so could leave you open to legal action.
    • You must remove references to your Chartered/Fellow status from practice documents, business cards, letterheads, websites, email signatures, etc. You must remove similar references if employed in the public sector.
    • The change in your professional status might impact on the terms of your employment. Further advice should be sought from your employer.
    • Your professional indemnity insurance policy, eligibility to appear as an expert witness and other matters may be affected.
    • You may no longer vote at general meetings or in LI elections going forward.
    • The LI requires that you return your Chartership certificate to the Institute.

    Associate (previously ‘Licentiate’) Members considering resignation

    • You must immediately update all relevant documents where you are referred to as an Associate Member or Licentiate Member by removing this protected title.
    • You must inform all relevant third parties of your change in professional status. Failure to do so could leave you open to legal action.
    • You must remove all references to yourself as a Licentiate Member from practice documents, business cards, letterheads, websites, email signatures etc.; You must remove similar references if employed in the public sector.
    • The change in your professional status might impact on the terms of your employment. Further advice should be sought from your employer.
    • If you are registered as a candidate on the Pathway to Chartership then regrettably your account will be suspended.
    • You are no longer eligible to take the Chartership examination and gain Chartered status with the LI.
