UK Landscape Conference 2010
The three-day event will be the first ever conference on the European Landscape Convention (ELC) to be held in the UK and will also reveal the winner of the first UK Landscape Award.
Jointly hosted by DEFRA, the Welsh Assembly Government, the Scottish Government and the Department of the Environment Northern Ireland, a central objective of the conference will be to raise awareness of the ELC.
The whole event will echo and endorse the ELC’s principles, which are to protect, manage and enhance landscapes everywhere – in town, country or coast – and help instil a connection between people and place.
Guest speakers will include Rene Bihan of SWA Group, San Francisco, who will share his company’s experience of working in China, where the government is backing ambitious, large-scale projects to transform blight industrial landscapes; and Steve Quartermain, Chief Planner at DCLG, will discuss how planning is being reformed under the new government.
The conference launches on 8 November with the presentation of the first UK Landscape Awards. The awards ceremony, conference dinner and a specially chartered Mersey tour are included in the conference price of just £185.
