Hudson Architects has been appointed by the University of East Anglia to produce a series of proposals that will rework the landscape and public realm
So far it has produced a series of proposals that address two principal routes through the campus – Cow Drive and Chancellor’s Drive. On Cow Drive it proposes to reinforce the sylvan character, planting new trees to increase a sense of enclosure at head height, while also opening up new space for pedestrians.
On Chancellor’s Drive it addresses the problems of a route that has become a major thoroughfare, rather ‘relentless’ in nature and with inadequate provision for the number of pedestrians that use it. Proposals include the introduction of a shared surface, and of seating areas, as well as addressing the compaction of soil around trees and the relationship to new and existing buildings.
