Eastside City Park in Birmingham, designed by Patel Taylor, and the Olympic Park masterplan, by Allies and Morrison, have both won RIBA awards.
They are among a total of 43 UK and nine EU projects to win National Awards, all of which will be eligible to be considered for the Stirling Prize. Six of the projects will be shortlisted for the prize.
On the Olympic Park, the RIBA said, ‘Without the Games, the area would probably have been developed in an ad-hoc manner. London 2012 offered the opportunity for a thoughtful masterplan for the regeneration of a large area of east London.
‘Wildflower meadows were a highly visible feature of the Park which now gives local communities better access to high-quality green space and recreational facilities.’
‘It describes Eastside Park as, ‘the focal point of the Eastside regeneration area’.
