Landscape architect LT Studio revises public realm proposals
LT Studio’s proposals for the public realm at Torquay Waterfront have been revised and have now been submitted for planning.
The project for Harbour Hotels represents an opportunity to create a new, distinctive public realm in the heart of Torquay, reconnecting the western side of the Inner Harbour with North Quay.
It will, says LT Studio, reinvigorate the seaside town’s existing Grade II listed pavilion building with improved facilities and link the public spaces throughout the town.
The landscape design proposals are focused on creating a new recreation quarter in Torquay at the harbour edge, with improved circulation routes and connections. A hotel development will form the centrepiece to the scheme with interconnecting public realm spaces at its interface.
‘The development will be one of the first projects on the ground which will help revitalise Torquay and kick-start much needed high quality public realm improvements across the Torbay area,’ says LT Studio director Marc Dix.
Shared surfaces, water features, decks, stepped harbour edges and waterside footpaths will be introduced to create an inclusive connected structure of open spaces.
