Technical information for members
This week on the Talking Landscape Knowledge Forum members are discussing liquidated damages, wind farms, JCT, landscape graphics, playbuilder, design for skate parks, tropical hardwoods, European Landscape Convention, tree management and plant knowledge in Azerbaijan. Knowledge and information is at the heart of our work.In addition to the Knowledge Forum, which was established six months ago, our new Knowledge Base is currently being tested. Every recent survey of members has shown that what members most want is improved technical information services from the LI. The Knowledge Forum and the Knowledge Base are part of the Institute’s response to that demand. The LI is now looking to expand membership of the Technical Committee to oversee and steer the future development of these initiatives. The Committee will have other tasks on its agenda as well. Among these will be looking ahead at emerging legislation from all four parts of the UK and offering guidance to members on its impact. The LI Policy Committee has recently published position papers on climate change and green infrastructure and will soon publish on housing. An important job of the Technical Committee will be to develop technical guidance for members that flows from this work. The LI’s Technical Committee needs to draw on a wide range of expertise and from across the membership and needs also to reflect the different circumstances in different countries in the UK. The committee will meet in person twice a year but will be asked to review all of our online work. If you feel you have specific knowledge and expertise that you would enjoy sharing, please contact Alastair McCapra.
