The winners of the Student Design & Build Award 2011 have been announced. Susan Willmott and Adele Ford scooped the top prize for their joint submission, ‘Coastal Drift’
The brief for this year’s award was to design a garden four miles from the coast in an area of high rainfall. Willmott and Ford, who both studied a BA in Garden Design at Hadlow College, based their entry on the concept of the movements of plants and drifts of the sea, represented by the shapes of the wall and materials used.
‘Coastal Drift’ is their second entry to the Student Design & Build Award, having missed out on the prize last year. It will now be submitted to the Royal Horticultural Society for an opportunity to include it as a show garden at the Royal Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in 2012.
Richard McKenna, Director at Wyevale East Nurseries, which launched the award two years ago, said: “I am delighted to have two worthy winners of the Student Design & Build Award 2011. The opportunity to give two newly qualified designers a launch pad for their careers is as exciting for me as it is for Susan and Adele.”
