The Bankside Urban Forest partnership, Better Bankside announced four shortlisted submissions for its Union Street temporary public art commission

Shortlisted artists announced in Bankside Urban Forest temporary space commission

Shortlisted artists are Sophie Horton for ‘Pop up art school’; Kirk:Creative and Ed Carter for ‘Bird calls’; MUF architecture/art for ‘Forest Rides’; and Public Works for ‘Union Street Press’.

The artists were shortlisted from over 50 submissions received in response to an open call for proposals. The brief asked for “a meaningful temporary art work and/or project to be situated in the public realm of Union Street to address the distinctive and complex environment of this key connective street within Bankside”. It also asked for a creative response that would complement recent Bankside Urban Forest projects that have been implemented or are underway in the neighbourhood, such as at Redcross Way, Flat Iron Square and Great Suffolk Street.

The successful artist will be appointed in early March 2012.
