Specially made rotating chairs have been installed in a new Thames riverside pocket park, the first in a series at Nine Elms, London.

At Riverside Gardens, next to Vauxhall Tower, Churchman Landscape Architects has introduced a colourful array of perennials and bulbs. The park’s talking point is provided by its bespoke Corten steel chairs and benches, designed by Tord Boontje, which include planted backs filled with strawberries and herbs.

Two more pocket parks will be added later this year: a pavilion and elevated garden by architect Studio Weave, opposite the new American Embassy; and a collection of wave-form benches and lawns, also by Churchman.

This improved section of the Thames riverside walk will eventually link up with new public realm taking shape around Battersea Power Station.
