Second Trees Connect journey starts shortly
The second Trees Connect cycle ride across Europe is due to start shortly, with cyclists planting trees along the route.
On 28 May, cyclists will set off from Berlin, travelling through Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and France before arriving at Dover on 7 June. Unlike most sponsored cycle rides, the travelling will be only the secondary aim. The main purpose is to plant disease-resistant elm trees as they travel.
The Lorberg nursery, which is providing the trees, will match public donations with an equal value of trees. In the first event, last year, 200 trees were planted on the route between Berlin and St Petersburg.
Anybody interested in the project, which has as its aim to create a continuous green route between St Petersburg and Dover, can either donate a tree or cycle all or part of the route. Learn more here.
