The project, dubbed Wirral Waters, will transform Birkenhead Docks
It has been worked on by Allford Hall Moaghan Morris, HKR, Skidmore Owings Merrill and Glenn Howells.
According to the developer, Peel, the proposals will reshape Birkenhead Docks, with 1.4m sq metres of mixed-use floor space, including 13,000 homes, office space for 20,000 workers. It will also include a number of leisure and cultural facilities, such as a waterfront hotel, restaurants and bars.
Peel’s development director, Lindsey Ashworth, said: “This has been a massive, difficult and complex but exciting journey. We are in very difficult times, and these projects take some resourcing in terms of staff time and finance, but it has been worth the effort and expense.”
Councillor Steve Foulkes of Wirral Council added: “This is a significant step in our vision to regenerate Wirral. It is encouraging that, even at a time of such economic difficulties, we continue to make significant progress towards the delivery of our ambitious investment strategy.”
It is hoped that the application will be heard by Wirral Council’s planners in the spring.
