The new Secretary of State for the Environment has apparently banned DEFRA officials from using the phrase ‘eco-system services’.

Owen Patterson bans the phrase ecosystem services

According to an article in The Guardian, Owen Patterson, the MP for North Shropshire sees this as an unaccaptable piece of jargon.

While there is no question that Patterson has strong links to the countryside, and says ‘we have to manage the countryside’. He is a strong opponent of wind farms and there is a concern that the minister, who is on the right of the Conservative party, is also a climate-change denier.
