Accelerate, a design education and mentoring programme aimed at increasing diversity in the built environment professions, is seeking expressions of interest from employers and experts in the landscape sector

The Landscape Institute (LI) is committed to inspiring the next generation to #chooselandscape as an education and career path. This year, we are supporting the Accelerate programme to deliver landscape learning and skills support to students from underserved communities across London.

About the Accelerate programme

Established by Open City, in partnership with The Bartlett, UCL, Accelerate is a design education and mentoring programme that aims to increase diversity in the built environment professions.

Every year, Accelerate provides 30-40 sixth form students from across London with a series of skills workshops, one-to-one mentoring, and guidance on university applications.

The LI and its London branch are sponsoring Open City and Open House 2020-21. As part of this support, the Accelerate 2020-21 course will feature landscape for the very first time.

Call for landscape employers to provide one-to-one mentoring

Open City will ‘provide a green addition to architecture practice’ in this year’s programme. They are seeking a landscape employer – or group of employers – willing to mentor three students at their London practice(s).

Mentoring will take place mostly in early 2021. More details about the programme and requirements for participant firms and mentors are available on Google Drive.

If you’re interested in this opportunity, please contact Stephanie Tyler, Schools and Young Peoples Manager at Open City, by Friday 18 September. Please include a proposal for what you can offer, along with a clear explanation of how you can support students from diverse backgrounds and your own commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Call for landscape experts and educators

Open City are also looking for London-based landscape experts to deliver Saturday online learning sessions for larger groups of school students over next six months. And next May, the London branch will host a careers event, where we’re keen for our London-based educators to demonstrate the very best in Landscape education.

If you’re interested in participating in either of these initiatives, please contact the London Branch by Friday 18 September.
