Open call for design panel members
To help achieve this objective a new design review panel is being put in place for all TfL Road Network and borough schemes over £2m. The panel will also ensure that good practice is disseminated to scheme promoters to achieve better balanced streets.
Part of the initial design review process with the promoters will be to ascertain the organisations capacity, skills and knowledge and whether any additional support above and beyond the design review process may be necessary. As part of this additional support, TfL will offer, where appropriate, a small amount of the external experts additional time to provide up to three mentoring sessions for the promoters. The mentoring sessions would follow-on from the initial design review.
The role of the external expert as mentor would be to inspire, provide an holistic view, enable development of the promoting organisation, challenge the philosophy of design, be non-directive or judgemental and ensure the scheme promoters find the answers. The role of the mentor is not to undertake any of the design work on behalf of the promoting organisation and not to pass judgement. Any design support required by the promoting organisation in developing the scheme would need to be openly tendered for separately.
TfL would like to invite members of the Landscape Institute to submit applications for membership of the new panel that will be in place for approximately two years from September 2010. The panel positions and the mentoring sessions will be paid on the same basis. There will be monthly meetings across the scheme period with sessions expected to last for three hours.
Recruitment to the panel is open until 16 July. If you are interested in being considered for membership, please send a CV and 200-word personal statement to:
