Landscape professionals will be able to reduce carbon with these free new tools created by members of the LI in collaboration with industry experts.

Mayfield Park, Manchester. Studio Egret West

This autumn, the Landscape Institute (LI) is publishing a new suite of free practical resources to help members and wider professionals reduce carbon emissions in their projects. These new tools result from a collaborative effort by LI members and industry experts to convert the LI-BALI “Landscape and Carbon” recommendations (March 2024) into outputs of value for users.

As part of this drive, the LI is running a webinar on Tuesday 30 September, during which experienced practitioners Jo Phillips, CMLI, and Annie Buckle, MSc MDes Dip.Bot, will explain how the new overlay helps practitioners reduce the carbon footprint of their projects throughout all their stages. They will demonstrate our free-to-use carbon overlay tool, which follows an industry-standard framework to help users work towards net zero. The webinar is open to both LI members (free) and non-members.

Practical Resources for Your Work

Developed with the professional support of Greengage Environmental and consultant Jo Phillips CMLI, these resources are designed to provide clear, actionable guidance:

  • A database of Landscape Carbon Tools: This new, searchable database will help you find and select the right carbon tools for your work. It will include analysis and contact information on each tool for ease of use.

  • Guidance on Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Product Category Rules (PCRs): We’re creating a set of clear, practical resources on EPDs and PCRs, which include key facts, ‘how to’ guides, and accreditation details to help you understand and apply these in your projects. We’re also publishing a database of commonly used EPD databanks to help you find EPDs that meet your project needs.

  • Landscape Carbon Overlay to the RIBA Plan of Work: This major, user-friendly resource offers stage-by-stage guidance and practical checklists to help cut emissions on every stage of a project’s lifecycle.

Join the Conversation: Upcoming Event

In addition to the webinar mentioned earlier there will be a masterclass entitled Working with Landscape Carbon Tools and EPDs on Thurs 20 November.

Greengage Environmental will provide hands-on guidance for working with carbon tools, EPDs, PCRs and related databanks. Further details on this event will be announced shortly.
