Mentor training goes online
New web-based seminars or ‘webinars’ are being introduced this year to make sure that training is accessible to all Pathway mentors.
“Up until now, training has been delivered face-to-face at Branch meetings” said Alex Byrne, head of Professional Development at the LI. “That worked well for people nearby but, by moving training online, any member in any part of the world can now attend a session.”
Two half-hour sessions have been scheduled for January. ‘Mentoring for beginners’ introduces mentors to topics such as how the Pathway works and what the mentor role involves. ‘Assessing your candidate’ introduces mentors to stages 0–3, how they relate to the syllabus and what the Pathway supervisor is looking for. Places are still available and more detailed information about the sessions is available online at https://www.landscapeinstitute.org/members/pathway/P2.php
Byrne explained: “The sessions are simple to join. We will send you an invitation email directing you to the specified website at the start time. After that, you just need either a computer headset or you can dial in via telephone.”
A previous session aimed mainly at candidates called ‘Reflecting on your development’ took place in December and the recording can be accessed here. Feedback from the candidate session has been very positive and further sessions are planned for 2012.
