Entec has designed new landscapes for two major school refurbishment projects in the London Borough of Redbridge.
The practice’s London landscape design team worked with KSS Design to create new, functioning landscapes with high sustainability credentials for Hainault School and Newbridge SEN School at the Gresham Drive Campus. The new landscapes will combine circulation, security and maintenance considerations with the need to ensure a high-quality landscape character is created that stimulates the senses of the children.
Entec Associate Director Anthony Brookfield commented: “The new landscape at the Gresham Drive Campus has been worked through in detail with the school to establish a landscape structure that can be developed over the coming years to enrich the sensitive needs of the pupils. The sensory garden, break-out spaces, memorial garden and expansive play area seek to provide variety in form, scale and structure to give a vibrant and soothing feel to the campus.
“The approach to Hainault School has been to look for opportunities for integrating ecological and sustainable landscape improvements with the direct needs of providing efficient circulation and balanced campus security solutions. The use of our bespoke Landscape Sustainability Checklist enables us to promote this approach and work closely with the school and the design team to arrive at an optimum design.”
