Landscape Institute elects three new fellows

The LI has announced the appointment of three new fellows in the latest of its twice-yearly elections to fellowship.

Penny Beckett FLI
Penny’s career has spanned the private, public and voluntary sectors in various roles in the UK and overseas.  From 2009 she chose to devote her professional time to the Institute, first as NW Branch Chair and Rep., and then as the Institute’s Treasurer. She brought vigilance to the latter role by ensuring, for example, that the finance working group was recast as a formal subcommittee of the Board.

She also led the working group tasked with securing a future for the Institute’s library and archive. This objective was achieved last year when both were transferred to the University of Reading’s Special Collections at the Museum of English Rural Life.

Mayda Henderson FLI

Mayda’s career has covered many types of landscape projects, advising on a range of commissions including site feasibility analysis, urban and landscape design, regeneration strategies, master planning and environmental assessment.

Mayda has specialised in landscape and visual impact assessment, enabling her to coordinate the assessment documents for submission of the DCO for Hinkley Point C Power Station. Mayda has contributed a substantial amount of voluntary time to the advancement of the LI through her roles as Examiner, Supervisor and Mentor on the P2C.

Nicola Garmory FLI

Nicola is a director of TGP Landscape Architects’ Durham, Glasgow and Hong Kong offices. She has worked in both the private and public sectors during her career.  She has been involved with the design and implementation of a wide range of projects in Scotland and Northern England, a number of which have gained national recognition as a result of awards.

Nicola is also widely known for her involvement in teaching and practical experience particularly in terms of professional practice and is one of the authors of the publication ‘Professional Practice for Landscape Architects’. From 2003-2005 Nicola was Secretary of LIS and she is currently an active member of the committee.

If you would like to apply for fellowship, applications forms and guidance can be found on the member website. Deadlines for applications are 1st September and 1st March. If you have any enquiries regarding fellowship please email
