The competition, launched in March, attracted nearly 70 expressions of interest from the UK and abroad. Following a detailed review of the expressions of interest, STAND invited five teams to Hull to discuss their approach to the design of the memorial.

The three selected practices are Colour: urban design limited; Dress for the Weather, FACTORY Architecture with artist Jacqueline Donachie; and Plincke Landscape Ltd.

‘We were delighted with the range and quality of the expressions of interest we received,’ said STAND chairman Charles Pinder. ‘We have now selected three skilled and experienced teams to develop proposals for the memorial and we look forward to sharing their ideas with the public when their designs are submitted in July.’

‘The design proposals will be exhibited at Hull’s Maritime Museum prior to the selection of the winning design.
