Landscape architect Rebecca Hughes has joined the Edinburgh office of SLR Consulting, along with ecologist Rhys Bullman.
SLR Consulting is an international environmental consultancy, with particular strengths in the mining and energy sectors.
Hughes has more than 25 years’ experience of landscape design, landscape planning and policy development projects in the UK and New Zealand and is an experienced expert witness on landscape-related issues.
She was head of landscape and restoration for Scottish Natural Heritage, where she initiated and managed the Landscape Character Assessment Programme for Scotland – a first in Europe. She was also involved in developing the original industry standards and best practice guidance for landscape character assessment and guidance for landscape and visual impact assessment for SNH and the Landscape Institute.
Hughes has also worked as an expert landscape advisor to the UK Planning Inspectorate assisting the public inquiry for the New Forest National Park. Her report helped the New Forest gain ministerial approval for legislative adoption as the first new national park in England for 50 years.
Bullman specialises in the impact of onshore and offshore wind farms on birds.
