200 trees and 1,400km unite Berlin with Boulogne and London

Join trans-Europe bike ride to promote green bond

German tree nursery Lorberg has donated 200 robust Resista-Elms to be planted along the R1 European Bicycle Route from Berlin to Boulogne-sur-Mer, and on from Dover to London, symbolising a ‘green bond’ across the continent, promoting ‘peace and a united Europe’.

To mark the gesture, keen cyclists are invited to join the team that will ride the 1,400km route, setting out from Berlin on 28 May and arriving in London 11 days later. Anyone can take part in a section of the ride, which passes through Utrecht, the Hague, Bruges, Boulogne-sur-Mer and Dover on its way to London.

If that sounds too athletic, you can also become a ‘tree godparent’ by sponsoring one of the elms at €240 per tree. Lorberg Tree Nursery has pledged to donate an additional tree for every tree sponsored.

Trees Connect 2016 builds on the success of the 2015 Trees Connect event where the tree nursery planted 200 elms along the first stretch of the R1, from St Petersburg to Berlin, celebrating with a 12-day, 2,350km bike ride.
