Institute seeks volunteers to address professional conduct matters
The Institute generally expects to deal with five or six disciplinary cases per year, some of which will extend to a full hearing while others will be resolved at an earlier stage. Any person who serves in the pool might therefore expect to be involved in no more than a single disciplinary case over a three-year period. However once they start, some cases may involve a significant amount of written submissions to read and may, in some cases, require a site visit.
By agreeing to serve in this capacity, you would agree to be available to join a Disciplinary Panel and to hear a specific case. You would not be compelled to hear that case if other commitments made it impossible. If you are unable to serve when first asked, you may be asked on future occasions.
We would like to hear from any chartered member of at least five years’ standing who is prepared to volunteer for a three-year period.
Experience of any of the following would be helpful, but is not required:
- Experience of sitting on hearings, disciplinary cases or tribunals
- Experience of dealing with sensitive or confidential matters
- Specialist knowledge or technical expertise in a certain area, e.g. GLVIA
- Previously working in a role on behalf of the Institute e.g. Council, branch, committee.
If you wish to apply, please set out in no more than 200 words your relevant experience or expertise. Email this to Claire Jeffs firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 24 August.
