It is with profound sadness that RPS have to report that Karen Roberts passed away on Thursday 1 July 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

A pillar of the RPS business, Karen was one of our longest-serving members of staff,  with a career stretching over nearly four decades. A Senior Director based in the Southampton office, Karen began her landscape journey in 1984 when she joined Hugh Watson Associates in Winchester, which was later acquired by RPS in early 1988.

Going on to lead the RPS Solent office as Operational Director from 1988 to 2009, Karen was a key member of the RPS Landscape team. After handing on the Operational Director role in 2009, Karen remained an integral figure of the national landscape team, and her contribution to many multi-disciplinary and multi-company projects was far-reaching.

The news of Karen’s passing will deeply sadden many. Colleagues and clients will remember her enthusiasm, commitment, and support for every piece of work she was involved in, and her legacy is there for all to see, which will live on and we will proudly continue to share.

She was a hugely important mentor and supporter to many and will be remembered for the highest standards of professionalism for which she was well recognised.

Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with Karen’s family and friends at this time.

As a tribute to Karen and to mark her career at RPS, we are putting together a book of condolences and memories to share with her family. If you would like to contribute, please send your message through to Julie Patey at pateyJ@rpsgroup.com.

  1. I’m very sorry to hear of Karen’s passing, I worked with her briefly at Hugh Watson Associates and remember her as a strong character who took no prisoners! But a high valued team member who was a highly regarded mentor to many young graduates.
Hugh Watson also passed away in December 2019.
