Levitt Bernstein showcased one of its most recent community garden projects as part of a hands-on open day at last month’s London Festival of Architecture (LFA).

Vaudeville Court, Islington, is a social housing project of 13 new homes, completed in 2015, adjacent to an existing tower block and focussed around a communal garden. The scheme also incorporates green roofs and planting wherever possible and makes the most of a tight urban site.

At the LFA open day on 18 June, visitors and residents helped plant vegetables and seeds and paint bird boxes. Representatives of Levitt Bernsetin’s architecture and landscape architecture teams led tours of the buildings and gardens.

The practice said: ‘We are incredibly proud of [the scheme’s] success, reflected first and foremost by the joy of residents living there, and the number of awards it’s won since completion. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped to make the afternoon such a success. Now we’re looking forward to seeing the garden mature and residents begin to enjoy its spoils.’
