UK landscape architects to help redesign Russian city’s waterfront

Gillespies team wins international Moscow River competition

A team led by Project Meganom of Moscow and UK-based Gillespies has won an international competition for ‘the future redesign of the river through the city of Moscow’.

In announcing the competition earlier this year, Moscow City Government stressed the importance of creating a ‘holistic concept for the development of the river and the river banks’. This, it says, was to enable the area’s transformation ‘from a barrier to a water system and waterfront of international quality’.

As well as Gillespies and Project Meganom, the competition-winning team includes: Strategy Partners, from Russia; Italian company Systematica; UK-based JTP/John Thompson & Partners; and the Russian office of Cushman & Wakefield.

Gillespies partner Brian Evans says he is delighted to have won this prestigious International competition. ‘Our strategy envisages a series of new "ports" at strategic points along the river interlinked with an ecological and landscape strategy for the future quality of the river itself,' he said.
