Gavin Dunn appointed director of BREEAM
He replaces Richard Hardy, who was last year promoted to managing director of the organisation’s global certification business.
Dunn has long been a strong advocate of the standard which he says is ‘unique in the world because of its scientific rigour’ and ‘brings real value to customers’.
His mission, says BRE, is to drive more international growth for the standard which will benefit not only BRE but also the UK’s construction sector.
‘BREEAM is a highly adaptable framework which allows for local adaption to bridge cultural barriers,’ Dunn explains. ‘It is making significant inroads in countries like China where we recently signed an agreement with a Chinese state developer who will apply BREEAM and BREEAM In Use on a multi-billion dollar flagship waterfront development in Shanghai.’
Other flagship projects in China include the exhibition centre for the new Meixi Lake Eco-City, which is being designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley to achieve BREEAM Outstanding .
Dunn has a PhD from Cardiff University in the energy performance of buildings, and is a fellow of the Association of Building Engineers.
