Applications are being welcomed for the Student Design & Build Award 2012, run by Wyevale East Nurseries and the Royal Horticultural Society
The closing date for entries is Friday 31 August and the winning design will be entered in the Summer Garden category of the 2013 Hampton Court Palace Flower show.
Last year’s Student Design & Build Award winners were Susan Willmott and Adele Ford with their project entitled ‘Coastal Drift’. Their journey from competition winners to exhibitors at this year’s Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is well under way, with materials, plants and a team of workers currently being gathered in readiness for constructing the garden.
“Our winning entry was our second try at the competition,” said Susan. “Although we were disappointed not to win in 2010, the feedback received from the judges was really useful. The process of entering such a prestigious competition is a great discipline, which every up and coming garden designer should try – whether you win or not!”
£5,000 of materials and an unlimited budget for plants awaits the successful applicant. Application forms and the design brief can be found at www.gardendesignaward.co.uk
