Designer of the Eden Project recognised for services to landscape conservation
Dominic Cole has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, the only landscape architect to be recognised this year.
His award was for ‘services to landscape conservation’ and he is described in the list as lately chair of the Garden History Society. He is still best known in the profession as the designer of the Eden Project, where he gave the Jellicoe Lecture in November 2013. Recent work includes projects at St John’s College, Oxford, at Christchurch, Spitalfields in London, and at Box Hill in Surrey.
Last week Dominic led a walk along the Strand as part of the London Festival of Architecture. Asked about his OBE, he said, ‘Whilst it is very nice for me personally, I consider it a huge honour that I share with the landscape profession. I would be happy for the Institute, and anyone related to the profession, to use it for the purposes of promoting our work.’
