Founding partner of New York practice Balmori Associates was 84
Diana Balmori, founding partner of New York practice Balmori Associates, died on 14 November at the age of 84.
She was renowned for her ecologically sensitive designs that integrated buildings and the living environment within urban settings.
The current issue of Landscape, published on 24 November, includes a piece of her work as ‘bigger picture’.
This is a drawing by Diana Balmori showing ‘Grow on Us’, a project that creates a floating landscape in Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal, creating clean water through phytoremediation, desalination and rainwater collection to irrigate productive floating gardens.
The journal went to press before Diana Balmori’s death, so there is no mention of it on the pages but this can nevertheless be seen as both a memorial and celebration of her work.
