Landscape architects could be among 70 showcased talents

Design Council on lookout for new stars

The Design Council has launched a national call for entries for Design Council’s Ones to Watch – a search for 70 talented designers of the future to showcase as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations.

Design Council is inviting emerging designers from any discipline and any background to apply for the accolade.

The criteria emphasise innovation, ambition and vision.  Entrants must also display the potential to have a bright future, contribute to the creative economy and build the UK’s reputation as a leading design nation.

Entrants can download the application form here and complete it by the 1 October 2014 deadline. A panel of design experts will review the submissions and the final 70 will be announced in November.

Winners will be included in a digital showcase profiled over the course of the Design Council’s 70th anniversary celebrations. They will also receive a Design Council Ones to Watch swing-tag (in paper and digital form) to attach to their websites and portfolio.

On top of this, winners will be put forward for inclusion in the Design Council’s youth sounding board, which will be launched in 2015, to improve links and keep close contact with a cross-section of emerging talent.

The Design Council is also scouting for its Ones to Watch at design shows, awards, and other creative hot-spots, hand-picking a few stand-out designers to automatically go through to the final 70.

Scouting starts on 26 June at New Designers, the show for emerging designers, at the Business Design Centre in London. Harriet Vine, founder of Tatty Devine will be there helping Design Council choose it’s Ones to Watch.

Other collaborators include the RSA, New Designers Part 2, Creative Conscience Awards, RIBA, Landscape Institute and Young Urbanists.

This is the second Design Council initiative to uncover outstanding design talent, following the launch of its Future Pioneers discovered at New Designers programme last year.
