Entries are open for the Design Council’s Spark 2017 sponsorship, supporting designers in taking their inventions from a bright idea to product development.

Up to 15 inventors will be awarded a £15,000 product development grant and invited to join a 16-week mentoring programme. After completing the programme, participants can pitch for a further share of £200,000.

The categories are ‘home life’, ‘health and wellbeing’, ‘energy and the environment’, ‘on the move’, ‘sport and leisure’ and the miscellaneous ‘something remarkable’. Entrants must be over 18 and based in the UK.

The programme has been running since 2014. Last year’s winners included London designers Begum and Bike Ayaskan, both 26, who devised an origami-like plant pot that grows with the plant.

The closing date for entries is 10 January 2017. See the Design Council website for more details.
