LDA Design has completed public realm works for Here East on the edge of London’s Queen Elizabeth Park, opposite Hackney Wick.

Technology innovation centre Here East occupies the former Olympics press and broadcast centres, now housing a mix of arts, media and educational organisations.

Working with Here East’s architect, Hawkins Brown, LDA Design has incorporated a variety of different environments into the public space around the canalside building. There are yard spaces for use by artists and makers for manufacturing, and circular timber benches with in-ground lighting creating tranquil social spaces. Larger open areas in between are intended for use for events and pop-ups.

Materials and surface finishes reflect the site’s industrial links, including bespoke concrete slab benches. There is also perennial wildflower planting to tie the site into the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, characterised by its swathes of wildflower gardens, where LDA Design led masterplanning and detailed design.
