A workshop has opened in the traditional shopping street of Lower Marsh, Waterloo, that allows locals to make their own urban interventions.
Called Assemble & Join, the project is a collaboration between GDHTA, the graphic design arm of HTA, social entrepreneur Tom Tobia and artist Christopher Jarratt. Assemble & Join is occupying an empty shop on Lower Marsh and local residents are being invited to come to the workshop where they can develop ideas for improving the neighbourhood. These concepts can then be made and positioned in the street.
Digital manufacturing techniques allow designs to become reality, and to be used to enhance what is one of London’s last local shopping streets. Early ideas include bird boxes, stools and Christmas decorations.
The project is supported by Lambeth Council.
