The LI’s partner organisation, BAME in Property, is running a social media campaign this International Women’s Day (Monday 8 March), and want to see what Landscape Institute members #ChooseToChallenge!
This year’s theme is Choose to Challenge. ‘From challenge comes change,’ states the website, calling on us all to collectively ‘call out gender bias and inequality… seek out and celebrate women’s achievements… [and] help create an inclusive world.’
Our partner organisation, BAME in Property, are running a social media campaign of their own, and we’d like to encourage as many of our members and colleagues as possible to take part!
With #IWD round the corner (8th March), this month we’re sharing photos of our valued members, partners and supporters, holding a sign of what they #choosetochallenge, which is this years’ theme. We kick this off with our founder, @Priyalala93! #watchthisspace for more photos. pic.twitter.com/hubkRvesZY

It couldn’t be easier:
- Create a sign with a short sentence saying what you #ChooseToChallenge
- Take a (COVID restriction-compliant) photograph of you with your sign – extra points for creativity!
- Share your snap on social media, being sure to tag @BAMEinProp and @talklandscape
Join the conversation on gender and placemaking
People use space in different ways. How we design, plan, build, and manage our places can massively effect the experiences people have of them.
We’d like to publish and share content over the course of the coming month exploring the themes of gender and gender equality in placemaking. This could be equality of opportunity in the industry, equality of access and representation in design, or even the more recent topic of how caring inequalities have disproportionately affected female practitioners during lockdown.
Cities haven’t been designed to suit the lives of women, according to British writer @CCriadoPerez, whose book #InvisibleWomen argues that much architecture & design does not work properly for females. #IWD2021 #choosetochallenge via @dezeen (March 2020).https://t.co/EDAQgPkNrB pic.twitter.com/fRz0EMVo2o
