The Taiwanese city of Taichung wants international landscape architecture firms to submit proposals for turning a former airport into an ecological ‘gateway park’
The new Taichung Gateway City will cover about 254 hectares and include an expansive 68-hectare green space at its heart. The surrounding areas will be separated into four distinct zones: an eco-residential district, the gateway, a business district and an area reserved for innovation and R&D. There will also be a convention hall, a tower and a dome.
The total construction budget of the sustainable park is estimated at US$85m, and firms entering the competition should include plans for adding in renewable energy systems for local power generation.
Interested firms are invited to submit entries by February 25, 2011. The shortlist will be announced by March 4 and finalists’ submissions will be due by June 7, with the winner announced on June 10.
