The public now has several weeks to comment before the project goes to the planning committee. The park is associated with the historic Alexandra and Ainsworth Estates, built in the 1970s to designs by Neave Brown, and now Grade II listed. The original landscape architect for the park, Janet Jack, is still involved with the project.

Early in 2013, the Heritage Lottery Fund will annouce whether the project is to receive the £1.2 million in Parks for People funding that it is seeking. This money will go towards a re-design of the playground, paths and planting, as well as the appointment of a full time park keeper. First stage funding has already been used to undertake a conservation management plan by Sarah Couch Historic Landscape, appoint a project manager, Around the Block,  and commission landscape architect J & L Gibbons.
