Belfast community greenway award win
Andrew Haley of the Paul Hogarth Company (lead consultant) and Wendy Langham of East Belfast Partnership (programme manager) received the Partnership Award for their work on the Connswater Community Greenway in east Belfast. The award recognised the high degree of commitment and collaboration by the project team that brought the project from initial vision to ongoing implementation. The Paul Hogarth Company was also given recognition as runner-up in the Masterplan and Strategy category of the awards. The awards recognise best practice in sustainable waterway regeneration and development throughout the UK, and are now in their seventh year. The nominations were judged by an independent assessment panel, comprising waterway, conservation and regeneration experts and chaired by Sir Peter Soulsby MP. The Connswater Community Greenway is due to be completed in 2013 and will be a valuable amenity for local people, providing opportunities for improved health and wellbeing in post-industrial east Belfast. A new civic square will be created and polluted waterways will be cleaned, while 19km of cycle and walkways with new and refurbished bridges will reconnect communities, local services and schools.
