New conservation and management guide now available for free download
Historic England has updated its guide to Conservation and Management of War Memorial Landscapes, now avaialbe to download for free.
The original document was written by Liz Lake Associates in 2012; the new version has been updated by Historic England's national landscape advisor Jenifer White. It has been published in conjunction with the War Memorials Trust and the Gardens Trust.
Guidance covers gardens and the setting of war memorials as well as landscapes dedicated as war memorials. It looks at how to preserve the historic significance of the design, the background to their creation, the role of volunteers and professionals, landscape design and planting, and the practicalities of planning controls and funding.
