A celebration of desire lines

The Gentle Author, who writes a blog called Spitalfields Life, posted a piece, including several photographs, entitled East End Desire Paths. While these paths are often seen as a failure of planning or design, with the public not following the routes intended for them, for The Gentle Author ‘My experience of life has been that there is more to be discovered by stepping from the tarmac and meandering off down the dusty track, and so I delight in the possibility of liberation offered by these paths which appear year after year, in complete disregard to those official routes laid out by the parks department.’ The paths certainly offer a fascinating insight into the way that people actually use spaces.
