State of Landscape research report 2017

The Landscape Institute (LI) aims to lead and inspire the landscape profession to ensure it is equipped to deliver its purpose under our Royal Charter for the benefit of people, place and nature, for today and for future generations.

In 2017, the LI undertook extensive research into landscape education and practice. The results highlighted the need for multi-disciplinary skills for landscape professionals, embracing digital and professional practice skills to future-proof the profession and meet the needs of employers, clients and society.

A summary of the State of Landscape practice review, and the separate education review, is available here.

The full State of Landscape Research Report is available to LI members and key partners. Access the report here.

Landscape Institute Members' Survey 2016

In December 2016 the LI ran its first members’ survey.  This asked questions about the LI’s reputation, member satisfaction with our services, benefits of membership, our contribution to society, and the quality and relevance of our services like the journal, training and events. Nearly 14% of our members completed the survey. The results have now been collated by our market research agency and were presented to a special away day for board and council which took place in late January. They offer insights into our performance as a professional body, the relevance of our services, and the popularity of different events and activities. The research has provided considerable insight into what we do well and what we do badly.  Most importantly, we now have a baseline with which we can monitor our performance in future years.

This information has proved invaluable in providing insight to the board and council as they create a business plan for the organisation going forward over the next three years.

We are hugely grateful to all of those who were able to complete the survey.  Over the next few months we are going to follow this up with detailed qualitative research with our registered practices.

Please have a look at the results.  We appreciate your feedback on the results and on the approach that we took.
