Bretton Hall Park is a late eighteenth / early nineteenth century landscape park developed to complement the setting of Bretton Hall. The Hall was acquired by West Riding County Council in 1948 and developed as a teacher training college. It is now occupied by University College Bretton Hall. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park owns and runs part of the grounds and it is they who commissioned a study of the landscape issues associated with the proposals to build new visitor and gallery facilities. Part of the brief was to study the development of the historic landscape, to understand its extent and importance and to consider management initiatives across the whole designed landscape.
