Datong is one of the important cities of the Chinese Coal Belt. Due to heavy industrial and urban development and the geographical condition, Datong suffers from drought and Wenying Lake is depleted of water from its original function as a reservoir for the city.
The project restores the ecosystem and landscape of Wenying Lake to its former beauty, providing ‘green lungs’ to an industrial city, and establishing a waterfront recreation destination to enhance the quality of life in Datong City.
