For the terraces and a neighbouring public park of a 5-star hotel in Madrid, BBUK collaborated with seventeen architects and designers from around the world.
In the park change and flux was explored; a pine forest surround the hotel building clad by Jean Nouvel, cloaking it from the city. Concentric rings of trees radiate away from the hotel across the park, like an orchard, each ring flowering pink consecutively. From the surrounding apartments the trees read as a floral calendar from January through to December. Breaks in the tree grid provide space for play equipment, sculpture and a kickabout area.
A generous, stone clad staircase runs between the hotel terrace and park. This terrace is paved in travertine, each slab individually cut to follow the curved geometry of the building; a bronze pergola runs through the terrace supporting flowers throughout the summer.
