Every person is different in one way or another which means how we manage our relations will always be dynamic and built around each individual, whether consciously or subconsciously. By understanding neurodiversity, it is easier to achieve better relations and connect more with varying mindsets.
The lack of understanding towards neurodiversity as well as a need to embrace neuro-inclusivity has led to a breakdown in relations and weaker synergies within organisations and when working with partners externally. By not acknowledging the differences between people and what makes us better tuned in different environments and projects, we are not harnessing the full potential neurodiversity can deliver between teams and clients, leading to loss of opportunity and a weakened bottom line.
It has been found “studies estimate that excluding neurodivergent individuals from the UK workforce costs businesses a whopping £26bn annually” (People Management, 2024) and that neurodivergent employees “can be up to 140% more productive than other employees”. In fact, job retention for neurodivergent employees becomes greater too (Forbes, 2023).
Fostering an environment suited for neurodivergent people often enhances culture across the organisation and for other diversity, equity and inclusion groups.
Our neurodiversity masterclass on 18 September 2024 will provide you with some easy-to-implement approaches and ideas that address these examples and more.
What is neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity covers a range of neurological conditions, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, Tourette’s syndrome and more.
Neurodiversity impacts people in different ways, for example, there might be two neurodivergent people with the same condition, but it may appear differently in each of them. A common misconception has been that they are negative to have but that is not the case because they introduce plenty of unique skills and value that neurodivergent individuals thrive in.
How do I know if neurodiversity is relevant to me and my job?
Neurodiversity is relevant to everyone – the issue is too many managers and business leaders don’t realise its potential and how it plays a role in our every day lives.
This masterclass has been designed to cater for all of our LI members and non-members alike. Whether you are a student, HR professional, architect or company director, you will leave this masterclass having learnt a great amount.
Our upcoming neurodiversity masterclass can get you up to speed
Tailored to the needs of the LI membership and broader landscape profession, we have partnered with Steven Ingram, founder of Neurodiversity Together to deliver this masterclass. Deepen your understanding of neurodiversity so that you can enhance not only you and your team but relations with clients by discovering blind spots that you may not have perceived before. Topics discussed will include, but are not limited to:
- How neurodiverse conditions can be experienced.
- What neurodiverse conditions can mean in peoples’ day-to-day lives.
- How different people are affected by neurodiverse conditions, such as neurodivergent individuals, family members of neurodivergent people and people at work.
We believe this will be insightful and open a new world for landscape professionals – supported by Steven’s innovative and fresh approaches to teaching. We’ve learnt a lot just from speaking with him during the planning of this session and are excited to be able to share this with you.
