On Friday 6 March, Ground Control Ltd and Ealing Council landscape officers hosted a construction site visit for Pathway candidates at Bollo Brook Park in South Acton. This small local park is being constructed on small area of mown grass fringed by mature trees within the Acton Gardens housing regeneration area and is funded through developers S106 contributions. The design focusses on providing a local park for health, wellbeing and fitness activities for people of all ages and abilities. It includes a MUGA, interactive and traditional childrens play equipment, calisthenics and senior fitness equipment as well as a meadow strips, raised beds and fruit trees. Candidates learned about the remediation process used to identify and cap the existing soil which is contaminated with asbestos, the planning requirements on noise mitigation for the new ball court and measures taken to try and protect the existing trees in such a confined working area and where soil levels are having to be raised.
Update: Due to the COVID-19 situation all works at the site have just been suspended, but Ealing Council hopes to open the new park later this year.
P2C Speed Quiz update: This is still going ahead, but online. If you want to be involved do get in touch with Alice Knight who is organising this on behalf of the branch.
