Hello, and welcome.
The South East branch of the Landscape Institute was formed on April 1st 2008, as the boundaries of the organisation’s local branches changed to fall in-line with regional government offices, and many other bodies. The new branch covers the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex and Kent. Spread across that area are 813 Landscape Architects, making up the new branch membership.
Coming from a ‘standing start’ particularly at a time of economic and political instability, has been challenging. In its first year, the main functions of the branch were overseen by a non-elected ‘Working Group’. A Branch Committee was formed for the first time at the AGM in May 2009. With a mandate to take forward the business of the branch, within its first year a survey of Branch Members was undertaken to help the committee make decisions about branch policy, and the allocation of funds to branch activities.
The South East Branch covers a large geographical area, and as such it is a noteworthy achievement that Landscape Architect are actively involved with Landscape Institute initiatives in all parts of the region. Following the AGM in June 2010, the Branch Committee extended its commitment to engage with its members, and foster links with other related organisations and academic institutions throughout the region.
