Historic Landscape Project Officer

A new three year, full-time post has been created for an Historic Landscape Project Officer for the South East Region, working for the Association of Gardens Trusts, based from their central London office.
English Heritage and Natural England have identified untapped potential to deliver substantial extra benefit to historic designed landscape conservation and appreciation in the South East region through the Environmental Stewardship scheme. This scheme provides funding to land owners for environmental land management, and has proved a valuable tool in conserving historic parks and designed landscapes.
The post holder will provide support for case workers in Natural England in assessing projects as part of the agri-environment scheme. For further information on this scheme, please contact Jo Barnes, Historic Landscape Specialist, Natural England,jo.barnes@naturalengland.org.uk.
In tandem the post holder will work with the nine county gardens trusts in the South East Region, (charities which protect and sustain their county’s gardens, parks and designed landscapes) to develop volunteer skills in research, site assessment and conservation management. The successful applicant for this multi-faceted role will be flexible, an excellent communicator, computer literate and have a thorough knowledge of garden history.
A degree in landscape architecture or equivalent is required together with experience in the conservation of historic designed landscapes.
This post is jointly funded by Natural England and English Heritage in partnership with AGT.
If the project is successful the three year contract may be extended.
