Landscape Institute Archive

ArchiveThe Landscape Institute Archive comprises a wide range of drawings, photos, slides, papers and ephemera reflecting the development and influence of the profession throughout the twentieth century. We hold significant collections of work by major landscape architects, including Geoffrey Jellicoe, Susan Jellicoe, Sylvia Crowe, Brenda Colvin, Peter Youngman, Michael Brown, Peter Shepheard, Marion Thompson, Martin Jones, Cliff Tandy, and John St. Bodfan Gruffydd. The history of the Institute from its inception is also recorded through a unique collection of original documentary sources, including correspondence, publications and constitutional materials.

Most archival material is catalogued and searchable online via the LI library catalogue, and introductions to the collections of work by Geoffrey Jellicoe, Susan Jellicoe, Sylvia Crowe and Michael Brown are available.

The collections are regularly used as primary sources for current landscape projects and academic research. Drawings and photos from the archive illustrate numerous books, and have appeared in television, film and exhibitions, with requests for information and images coming from Institute members, students, researchers, writers and publishers in the UK and around the world.

The archive is currently closed pending a decision on its long-term location.
